5 Essential Tips to Prepare Yourself For Natural Detox

natural detox

Are you planning a springtime natural detox? Wondering how to get started? A natural detox is a worthwhile respite for your body organs that allows them to rejuvenate and renew. The cleanse is a good opportunity to clarify all parts of yourself, so take the time to reflect on all aspects of your emotions, mind and spirit.

Putting routines and habits aside has always been a challenge, but it is important to take a break in order to cleanse and rest both the body and mind. Think of a natural detox program as a personal vacation or an inner retreat. While it would be good to visit a retreat centre or a spa, use this time instead for a personal retreat to clear out all stored emotions, which produce metabolic debris. This is a good chance to create new, positive habits. Make time for nourishing yourself, exercising and meditating. This can be the start of living with mindfulness and a better connection to the environment and your inner self.

When is the Best Time to Do Natural Detox?

We believe detox should a continuous, lifelong process, but if you want a serious, thorough detox, then the best time for you to do it is during SPRING – the season of rebirth and renewal! Springtime is not only a time for cleaning your home, but also your body. Spring is the perfect time for cleansing, since many naturally detoxifying foods are abundant during this season.

What Happens When You Don’t Prepare For Natural Detox

Also known as pre-cleansing, prepping up your body beforehand will ease your body into the full detox . If you have consumed processed foods, alcohol and coffee over the past years, it is likely you have accumulated loads of toxins. Proceeding right away into the detox without allowing yourself the time to adjust for it can cause additional stress to your body.

Also, it will make the entire detox process go smoothly and you will increase your enjoyment of the resulting benefits.

5 Tips to Prepare for Natural Detox

Preparation is critical for achieving success. It pays to be equipped with the right tools and attitude to avoid frustrations. Read through everything in advance and have it all set before you begin. Below are the 5 ways on how to prepare for a detox.

Natural Detox Prep Tip #1: Timing – the time needed to prepare your body for the cleanse may differ depending on your health condition, weight and age. If you have any chronic illness, are overweight or are a little older, then a longer preparation may be needed.

What day will you begin the detox? It’s better if you plan to detox so that the fasting period will fall during the weekend, or a time when you are less busy. Normally, it takes 3 to 5 days to prepare the body for detox.

Natural Detox Prep Tip #2: Choosing meals – prepare a list of the meals you like. Modify them in a way that fits you.

Natural Detox Prep Tip #3: Prepare for tomorrow – plan your daily schedule according to what meals you plan to prepare. Though there are some recommendations in this article, it’s really up to you, since you are the creator of your own everyday menu. Don’t forget to check your stock of detox infusion and create enough so you won’t run out.Create a grocery list for every week and shop before starting the detox.

If you don’t have a blender or are too busy to create a green drink, make one in the morning and place it in a thermos. During the start of your detox, you will need it for every meal.

Natural Detox Prep Tip #4: Choose practices – pick a nourishing practice that appeals you most. You don’t have to do them to the point of stressing you out. The point here is to ‘de-stress’ you, so take time to think about what you feel is most relaxing and nourishing. Make sure you set aside a time for them, so that you don’t forget.

Natural Detox Prep Tip #5: Stay away from the microwave – instead, use the oven or stove for reheating food until it is heated enough, but not overcooked. Using the microwave for cooking or reheating can alter the molecular shape of the nutrients.

More Tips!

Below are special considerations before starting your natural detox.

    • For Arthritic/Inflammatory Conditions
If you experience chronic joint pain or other inflammatory conditions, you can experiment with excluding nightshade foods (e.g. potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and sweet/hot peppers) from your detox. These foods may worsen inflammation or weakness of tendons and joints. While they are included in most recipes in the detox program, you can easily eliminate them.

    • Paleo Diet
Paleo diet is not a weight loss diet plan, but a way of eating akin to the way people ate for many centuries. A lot of people view the Paleo diet as the ideal way to eat. It is simple in general and emphasises protein and vegetables, minimal carbohydrates and modest amounts of sugar from fruits. This is because carbohydrates can be inflammatory.During the detox, the five days after fasting are intended for Paleo eating. If you have no issues eating this way, you can continue as long as it is satisfying and energising for you.
    • Ayurvedic Option
If you want to experiment using Ayurveda in detoxifying, make large amounts of kitchari. Make kitchari your primary food during the middle of your natural detox. Kitchari is a known Ayurvedic dish that gently cleanses the body and stabilises all three constitutional types or doshas. This food is nourishing, soothing and a less aggressive way to detoxify. Never exclude the mung beans because they are the primary detoxifying ingredients.

Below is a simple kitchari recipe you can try:

Kitchari
The word ‘kitchari’ means mixture, often of two grains. This recipe is easy to digest and absolutely nourishing.Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Basmati rice
  • 1 cup split yellow mung dhal beans
  • 2 cups assorted chopped vegetables
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

Procedure:

  1. Wash rice and beans separately.
  2. Pour 6 cups of water onto rice and mung dhal mixture and cook for 20 minutes or until it turns soft.
  3. Next, add the vegetables and cook for another 10 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, melt ghee and sauté the seeds and spices. Stir well to bring out the flavour.
  5. Add the cooked rice, dhal and vegetables to the sautéed seeds. Sauté until brown.
  6. Add more water and simmer until the mung beans are tender. Add salt.
  7. Serve.

Important Note: The Kitchari mono-diet can cause constipation since it is low in fibre. To ensure regularity, the following are proven to be helpful if taken once a day:

  • Oat bran
  • Prune juice
  • Psyllium husks/seeds with water

If you want to include the Ayurvedic option in your detox, include kitchari in most of your meals, and at least every breakfast or dinner during these times:

      1. Autumn – replace your meals with kitchari for two days, that is, one before and one after the fast.
      2. Spring – two days before and two-four days after the fast, depending on how you feel.
    • Fasting for Long Periods

A longer fast may give you several benefits. For instance, if you are taking lots of medication, or love munching junk foods and other congesting foods, your body might really benefit from a more intensive detox. Don’t force yourself: detox on your own will. You will know if you need to detox longer because you will feel better and better. Simply stop as soon as you feel your body needs a regular diet again. Some people feel more energised when extending their fast.

Never fast for more than four days without the supervision of a professional.

  • Not Fasting

For some, fasting can be too ‘overwhelming’ for their bodies. In this case, listen to your body. If immune broth and lemonade cannot relieve your hunger, and if the vegetable recipe suggested in the Schedule isn’t enough to make you feel satisfied, perhaps fasting isn’t the right option for you. For several days, eat non-starchy vegetables (steamed) only, with some hard-boiled eggs if necessary. Or, use kitchari for several days.

Choose One that Fits You

The main essence of this natural detox is to be able to achieve balance and harmony in accordance with your body’s rhythm and natural preferences. Never do anything that does not fit you. However, if you need to replace some aspects of the detox, you should consult your detox expert.

If you have to eat protein for breakfast, do not use the Sweet Breakfast options. Your natural detox program coach can help you find the right variation that your body needs and that fits with your present lifestyle. Learning how to do this could be the most important thing of all.

Take It on a Deeper Sense

Most of our stored emotions can surface during a detox, and it is suggested that you give as much importance to your emotional health as you do to preparing food and exercising. Oftentimes, we encounter difficult situations and then deal with the emotions later. The problem is that we tend to overlook or forget ‘later’. As such, grief, anger, sadness, resentment and other unprocessed emotions from the past may come up during detoxification in the form of headaches, fatigue, irritability and other physical complaints.

Create a journal where you can track your emotional state, particularly during times when intense emotions tend to surface. Make use of the nourishing rituals to gently release these feelings. By nurturing yourself on this level, you’ll be left feeling even lighter and cleaner as this brings great positive impact to your life and health.

Detoxifying More than the Physical

Perhaps this is a good time for cleansing your external life. You may consider cleaning out your room, sorting through papers, rejuvenating your wardrobe and organising your priorities and personal goals. Natural Detox programs can trigger your inner energy, which lets you change certain habits and integrate more healthy habits in your life.
