5 Tips on How to Detox Your Body with Water

how to detox your body with water

Water is an integral part of our detox program, and it certainly deserves attention. Proper hydration is undeniably important for clearing toxins, keeping healthy digestion, increasing detoxification and maintaining healthy movement of lymph through the body. When cleansing, make sure you drink plenty of water.

This technique is developed to promote elimination and drainage; hence, you may experience frequent visits to the bathroom and stronger body odour.

“What should I drink?”

This question is very simple to answer – just drink water! However, there are different types of water to choose from, and their differences do matter.

How Does Water Help Remove Toxins

Drinking water is contributory in detoxification. Water flushes wastes and toxins from the body and carries nutrients to where they’re needed.

  1. Water acts as a natural lubricant that promotes elimination of bowels by softening the stool. Your colon will get stuck and dry out when there’s no water, which leads to constipation.
  2. The kidney’s unique filtering capabilities is totally dependent on water to perform. These bean-shaped organs eliminate wastes from the blood, remove toxins in your urine and handle water-soluble toxins from the liver to be processed. The kidneys filter massive amounts of blood every day and by doing so, keeps the water balance of the body by getting rid of excess fluid along with toxins going to the bladder.

How Thoughts and Intentions Affect Water

According to Dr. Masaru Emoto, our thoughts and emotions can influence the nature of water. He showed how one can affect and change physical reality through thoughts and intentions. For instance, healing and love can change contaminated water into a healthy, beautiful crystal. He believes that water is capable of holding energetic vibrations of consciousness surrounding us.

Because we are composed of 78% water, imagine the impact if we consider infusing our water with positivity such as love, strength, healing or joy every time we drink water.

How to Detox Your Body Tip #1

Every morning, take a glass of distilled water. Squeeze a lemon into it. Distillation of water is done by boiling the water until all the chemicals and minerals are destroyed and steamed out. This type of water is ideal for detoxification and ionising, as it attracts impurities and eliminates waste products from the blood and lymph. Since it is free from minerals, it can draw mineralised toxins out from the system. Make this a habit every morning in order to flush out the toxins when they’re most concentrated.

Throughout the detox, make sure you drink at least 5 glasses of spring water by 3pm. Often found in underground springs, spring water is minimally processed. However, not all spring waters are the same and they can vary in mineral composition depending on what place they are sourced from. The one with the highest mineral composition is found at glacial runoffs. Spring water is also useful for flushing out toxins.

Use glass or hard plastic container when drinking water.

How to Detox Your Body Tip #3

When drinking water, if possible, use a glass container. Otherwise, use hard plastic containers. Soft plastics contain Bisphenol A (BPA) and polyvinylchloride (PVC), which are both carcinogenic chemicals. These substances mix with the water, particularly when exposed to sunlight or heat. It’s best to use glass or hard plastics.

How to Detox Your Body Tip #4

Drink water at room temperatures instead of chilled. Warm water promotes cleansing, hydration and circulation, while cold water tends to be constrictive.

How to Detox Your Body Tip #5

Don’t drink water during or after meals because this will dilute digestive juices. You can drink water 20 minutes before taking your meal. But the rule of thumb is to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day.

What Happens When You Are Not Properly Hydrated?

Dehydration
A lot of people suffer from dehydration without knowing it. If you are noticing symptoms such as swelling, headaches, constipation, soreness and fatigue, you may be lacking hydration. Completely rehydrating requires both time and effort. Below is an easy-to-follow rehydration therapy that you can practice if you think you are dehydrated.

  1. Hydration test – take small sips of hot water every 10 to 15 minutes and do this throughout the day. If you feel thirsty or have dry mouth at the end of the day, then you are dehydrated.
  2. Boil water on the first day and keep it in a thermos.
  3. For rehydration, sip hot water throughout the day. Do this for two weeks. Ideally, boil water to destroy all mineral content. When you remove all minerals, it will be able to flow freely and penetrate into every cell. Boil water first early in the morning and keep it in a thermos.

Headaches
Headaches can easily happen when you are not well hydrated. Make sure you follow all the guidelines above. It is even more likely that you will experience headaches if you have excluded stimulants such as cigarettes, chocolates or coffee from your usual routine.

Constipation
One of the goals in keeping your digestive system healthy is to keep your system lubricated to prevent constipation. Drinking lots of water can help this, but there are certain techniques you can do to avoid constipation.

Physical activity can be helpful for regulating bowels, moving things out from your system. Any exercise or movement can be great but yoga is perhaps the most ideal for toning and massaging your abdominal area.

The colon cleanse drink is a natural healthy laxative that won’t irritate your bowels compared to other over-the-counter options. While OTC laxatives work, they tend to contribute more to the problem due to their dehydrating effect.

To stimulate your bowel, drink lemon water twice or thrice every day. Eat soaked prune, 2 to 4 pieces daily.

Other Ways on How to Detox Your Body Using Water

Sweating is a form of detoxification and there may be no better place to stimulate this process than in the sauna.

Knowing how to detox your body is vital and detoxification isn’t only limited to removing toxins internally. You can detox yourself with water externally. Hot water increases the flow of your blood, particularly the capillaries (tiny blood vessels), resulting to faster release of waste products. Good examples of hot water detox are hot baths and saunas. The heat helps open up pores and increase sweating. Make sure you bath in clean, pure water, and always remember that hot water and the detox process can cause dizziness.

Drinking water doesn’t have to be boring. Why not add fresh fruits as flavourings for your drinking water, and use natural bath salts and clays to enhance detoxification process and make it more enjoyable. When thirsty, drink water rather than picking those sugar loaded drinks. Let’s start paving the way to a happy, vibrant and healthy life!
