Watch the video below to learn how our emotions can affect our physical body.

What is the Mind-Body Connection?

There’s a body of knowledge called the mind body kind of connection. So most are understanding that our emotions do affect our physical health, in that if we are angry or we’re stressed, you know, we feel things in our body. But there hasn’t been a simplistic way to decode people’s emotional landscape let’s say so that to understand how it impacts their physical health indirectly. So we know that from traditional Chinese medicines that you have emotions say like anger or resentment affects the liver, and then if you have guilt or you’re holding onto a lot of issues it will affect your large intestine. These have already been tested through thousands of years by the Chinese medicine and ayurvedic medicines that show how emotions have direct impact and correlation on to specific organs, specific locations in the body and that shows up in our bodies and in our health.

So what we want to do is recognize that there is an intimate relationship with how much you’re holding in your mind in terms of your stress patterns, your emotional reactivity in response to the world that actually impacts on the body. So in my work, I find that 70 to 80% of conditions and illnesses are psychosomatic, which means it’s not all in the mind but actually originates in the mind and it manifests in the body because the emotions may be unresolved. Say you have unresolved resentment against a family member or friend or someone in your life and you’re not actually letting go of that and you haven’t forgiven that, then that’s going to show up as tension and stress in the body and that over time is going to lead to other conditions that might be as significant as cancer or autoimmune conditions. So there is definitely a correlation there. What I do is I work to guide people to the awareness of what’s really going on in the body. What’s the story behind that? What is the story of your life that is showing up in your health? And we decode that, and then we help you re-code. We help you tell a new story, a story that will help your body come back into balance, health and happiness, and then that will also reflect in your life. And that’s the exciting journey of self-discovery and self-empowerment.
